Alena is a Master practitioner who blends Reiki with intuitive guidance that naturally arises during sessions, allowing each experience to meet her clients where they are in a way that supports balance, clarity and emotional well-being. Her practice is devoted to supporting women such as those who are navigating life transitions, such as transitions throughout the childbearing phase of life; or for those women who feel called to deeper inner work, in situations such as purpose, career, mid-life and trauma survivor recovery. She holds space for women who give deeply of themselves and are seeking reconnection, better grounding and renewed self-honoring. Her approach is rooted in
traditional wisdom and gentle energy work, with the intention of helping release stagnant or limiting patterns so healing can unfold naturally. She feels it is a privilege to serve in this way, and looks forward to connecting with and collaborating as her practice continues to grow and evolve.

Mindfulness and Meditation Teacher
Mindfulness, meditation and compassion have been the primary focus of Barbara’s life. She trained and taught for twelve years as a nun in Plum Village and around the world with Venerable Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. During that time she served as his simultaneous translator and publications manager, and received transmission of the lamp (recognition as a Dharma teacher) from the Zen Master. In 2016 she returned to lay life in the United States wanting to share all that she had absorbed with a broader range of people. Since then, she has been working in association with renowned meditation teachers Tara Brach, Ph.D. and Jack Kornfield, Ph.D. Barbara received her JD from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she is now based, and has worked in small and large businesses, law firms, and nonprofits. In her experience with thousands of students, Barbara has seen how applied mindfulness practices can improve any and every situation. She finds joy in helping people rediscover how to embody genuine presence, connect meaningfully with others, tap into fresh insight, and enliven the everyday.

Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine
I am an NCCAOM certified Acupuncturist licensed in Michigan and Hawai’i. I grew up outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan and attended Michigan Technological University, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in geological engineering before relocating to Honolulu, Hawaii to work for a consulting firm. After three years on the job I left engineering to attend a 4-year Master’s program in acupuncture and Chinese medicine at the World Medicine Institute, studying under 64th generation Daoist Master Chang Yi Xiang (Lillian Chang, PhD). I graduated and started my practice in 2010. After 10 years in the tropics I was ready for some snow so I returned to the Copper Country in the late fall of 2013 to join Keweenaw Holistic Family Medicine with Dr. Jill Kalcich, MD and Marcie Gemignani, R. Ac. When KHFM closed in 2016, I opened my solo practice.
